Music Ministry

Mission Statement

Believing that God loves each person, the purpose of the Music Ministry of St. Andrew's UMC is to endeavor to touch lives with this love in,order to help people achieve lives of spiritual growth and meaning through Christian worship, learning, fellowship, and outreach. The music ministry strives to provide experiences for the participant and listener that challenge, move, and lift the spirit.

Musical events performed by the various musical groups have served the community of San Antonio creatively, musically, and charitably. The music ministry of St. Andrew's UMC is also dedicated to fostering the creation of new music for the church.


Sanctuary Choir

  • Rehearsal on Wednesday evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
  • Meet Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. to prepare for worship.
  • Perform each Sunday at the 10:50 a.m. worship service from September through July.
  • Soloists from the choir are encouraged to perform during the month of August.

All are invited to join in the Sanctuary choir – from high school age on up! Having a love of singing is your requirement!

Plangentes Dei Handbell Choir

  • Rehearsal on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Meet the second Sunday of each month at 9:30 a.m. to prepare for worship.
  • Perform on the second Sunday of each month at the 10:50 a.m. worship service.

Plangentes Dei performs once each month for worship service. In addition, the group has played in local churches to help spread the art of handbell ringing for worship, and they have conducted workshops for other handbell choirs. They have appeared with the San Antonio Symphony at their annual Holiday Pops Concert, rung at the Texas State Capital, and performed for the installation service for the San Antonio district superintendent.


Plangentes Dei is a seasoned group of advanced handbell ringers. Ringers must have knowledge of handbell music & techniques. As needed, ringers are admitted into the group at the discretion of the director.

Awakening Chorus

  • Rehearsal on the second and fourth Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. to prepare for the 8:30 worship service.
  • Perform on the second and fourth Sundays at the 8:30 a.m. worship service from September through May.

All are invited to come for the rehearsal & join in on the fun of worshiping thru music!

Community Outreach

Each year the St. Andrew’s UMC Music Ministry works with Agape Outreach International, which services the homeless on the east side of San Antonio. Clothing & financial donations are collected each fall to help provide transportation, a meal, clothing distribution, and a service of celebration on Thanksgiving Day for people & families in need.

Join Us!

Do you play a musical instrument? Flute, violin, cello, percussion, etc? Get in touch with the music department. We would love to have you become a part of the action...possibly accompany the choir or handbells or play as a soloist. We would love to have you join us.
